"Mallorcan" food was on the wish-list for today and so I ordered an antipasto of meat and cheese. This included sobrassada, which is a soft spiced sausage which can be eaten spread like a paste. Along with the local cheeses* and "rustic" bread, this was a very satisfying meal.

*Mahón-Menorca cheese has a bright orange rind and is made using cow's milk and fermented at low temperature; Mallorcan cheese is made using sheep's milk, is high in fat and has an intense taste, dark brown rind and creamy texture.
Sardines for lunch the other day at the cafe looking out over the Cala de Deia.

This was a bit of a surprise. I thought I was ordering fish and chips:

Ojala.
I am surprised by the paella eaters. One of the delights of Spain (in my time there) was the old-fashioned "?quiere comer?" when anyone was about to start eating and someone else was not. Of course it was a purely conventional invitation to which the reply was "Que aproveche". I think that is still current (and equivalent to "bon apetit" in some other language).
You seem to be having a wonderful time. I did not realise that Spain had so many UNE alumni.
Iain
I must remember those phrases! As for UNE alumni, I haven't met any here though I'm sure we have some in Spain. Carlos, mentioned a couple of times in previous posts, was actually working on campus earlier this year and I met up with him again in Madrid.
Oh, and I LOVE sobrasada
