Futility

Going to the nursing home twice a day was starting to get me down, so I decided to drive to one of my most favourite places on earth: Wooli. I'd read articles about the sand dune erosion but, until I took my customary walk along the beach, I hadn't realised how bad it had become.

The first noticeable thing was the number of dead trees on the isthmus. While the undergrowth is still green, all the tall trees were bare. Not sure if this is because of a fire or whether the salt density has changed.

There are various attempts to stop the sand dunes from eroding further but they all look pretty futile to me.

How this netting is supposed to do anything serious is beyond me.

Marrum grass has been planted in various places but this hasn't lived up to all that was originally expected of it.

Then there are the sandbags of various dimensions which are an eyesore.

If this all sounds too depressing, a walk along the beach on a warm summer's day can still get my head into a better place.

The swim afterwards was refreshing (and the waves were my height).
